Join us in Celebrating Abundance…
The year 2019 marks 40 years of
Sharing abundant food & feeding hungry families.
The Society of St. Andrew brings people together to harvest and share healthy food, reduce food waste, and build caring communities by offering nourishment to hungry neighbors.
Help us end hunger by making a donation on the Special Day of Giving on Tuesday, August 27! Every $1 you give provides 35 servings of fruits and vegetables for a hungry family. This year, generous partners have pledged to match the first $51,500 raised on this special day of giving. So every $1 you give will be turned into $2, up to $51,500.
In the Bible, the number 40 often represents important periods of time. These periods of time for trying, learning, growing, teaching, among other things. For the Society of St. Andrew, the number 40 represents an incredible journey. The organization has grown, adapted, and become larger and stronger.
SoSA is the architect of modern gleaning. We are the nation’s oldest and largest gleaning network. We have a vision of a world in which people’s hungers are met through abundance.
Some may say it’s a rather large goal, but for every single donor, volunteer, farmer, and friend, it’s a goal that can be achieved. For every donation given, every pound of food rescued, and volunteer who has served, that goal has been accomplished for someone, somewhere. Over the past 40 years, more than 2.4 billion servings of food have been rescued and given away to feed families struggling with hunger.
YOU helped make that possible. Whether it was through a download, an email, a newsletter, a donation, an hour of service, a donation of food, or something else, YOU helped accomplish something incredible.
Often times, the recipients of the food end up receiving more than just food. They end up with a little bit of hope and sometimes even a new friend. They end up with knowing someone cares about them. Someone in their community cared enough about them to make sure they had something to eat that day.
Despite 40 years of hard work and success, there’s still plenty of work to be done! More than 40 million Americans still struggle with a consistent supply of good quality food.
We need you to join the mission and help make a difference in your local community.
With your help, hunger doesn’t stand a chance!
If you’re ready to make a difference in the lives of your neighbors and your local community, there are 4 primary ways you can get involved:
(Click one of these buttons below to learn more.)
GIVE – If you’re ready to make a difference today, make a donation. Every $1 provides 35 servings of food for families struggling with hunger. We’ve done the math and if you can donate $12, you can feed an entire family for a month. Everyone eats, every day. Why not help make that possible?
Giving is a great way to make an immediate impact because you don’t have to know someone struggling with hunger. You don’t have to know how to harvest a beet. And you don’t have to know any fancy statistics about hunger in your area. The Society of St. Andrew keeps organizations and people connected in a network so that when food becomes available, volunteers rescue it, and recipient organizations help get it to the families who need it the most.
Are you interested in making an impact today? Click the “Give Now” button at the top of the screen.
Are you interested in making an impact every month? Click the “Give Monthly” button, also at the top of the page.
SERVE – If you’re feeling motivated and you want to get your hands dirty, then serving is perfect for you! Maybe you’ve been a donor and you want to see some of the “action” first hand or maybe you’re just a go-getter kind of person… Either way, there’s a role that is perfect for you!
There are so many roles in our volunteer ranks. Click here to read more about each type of role that you can serve in the mission. Whether your skills are farming, harvesting, driving a truck, sewing, or fundraising- there’s a spot for you. And we need you!
Once you’ve read over the volunteer roles, be sure to register as a volunteer online. Click here to fill out the Volunteer Registration Form/Waiver. Once you’re registered online, the local coordinator for your area will receive a notification. They will contact you when there’s an opportunity to serve in your local area.
LEARN – If you’re not quite ready to get your hands dirty or give a financial gift, you can still make a difference! Learning about the hunger epidemic in this country, about the unbelievable amounts of food waste, and the biblical calling to end hunger, is incredibly important.
Knowledge is power and as you become increasingly aware of the problems, you can share that awareness with others. And the more people that you touch and impact, the more people that will join the mission to end hunger. It is a massive problem, with long-reaching consequences, but there’s a common sense solution: make use of the abundant, perfectly edible food available to you now.
As you learn and become more aware you might even find new areas of need in your community. You might discover new solutions. You could even identify new partners that are eager to make a difference but just didn’t know where to start.

LEAD – If you’ve been a donor, who better to speak about the difference $1 makes in the mission? If you’ve been a volunteer, who better to recruit and lead other volunteers into the fields? And if you’ve been learning, who better to raise awareness of the problems and the solutions?
Take pride in your accomplishments and efforts in the mission to end hunger. You’ve made an incredible difference. And rise to the challenge to share what you’ve learned with others. There’s a new generation and a new wave of people who aren’t aware of the problems, of the solutions, or of how they can help.
We need YOU to share your wisdom, experiences, and guidance with those that have recently joined the mission.
Consider becoming an HRA, a Field Supervisor, a Fundraiser, or a Volunteer Recruiter to help increase the ranks in the mission to end hunger.
Thank you for everything you’ve done for the mission already and thank you for considering doing more! Click here to look up your SoSA Regional Office for more information.
