Take Food to the Dump (Not)!

Oh No!
You will haul all that leftover food to the landfill! This is a bad way to dispose of all that food. It will produce tons of methane gas, and that is really bad for the environment.

The best option (other than reducing the volume of surplus food generated) is to feed hungry people. Society of St. Andrew takes leftover food to food pantries at no cost to the agencies, and provides enough food to serve 90 million hungry Americans each year.

Fact: Along with the farm waste, Americans throw out the equivalent of $165 billion each year in uneaten food. All that food ends up rotting, deep in landfills. Wasted food is the largest component of U.S. municipal solid waste, and it accounts for a large portion of U.S. methane emissions.
