Volunteer

Your community needs you, and the harvest is ready. More than one-third of all food grown in the U.S. is lost as waste, yet hunger remains a daily reality for many. As a SoSA volunteer, you get to roll up your sleeves, enjoy the outdoors, and ensure that excess becomes life-saving meals. Whether you’re a first-timer or a seasoned gleaner, we have a place for you. Fill out the form below to get started!

How does it work?

number 1

Sign up to volunteer by filling out the form. This automatically enters you into our volunteer system! We welcome volunteers of any age, economic circumstance, ethnicity, sex, race, range of ability, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, and language.

number 2

Get notified

The next time SoSA gleans a field within driving distance of your zip code, you’ll receive an email from SoSA staff with more details about how to sign up, how to prepare, what to bring, how to sign our waiver, and everything else you’ll need to know. Most events are in the morning, depending on the crop and season.

number 3

Arrive

On the day of the gleaning, you’ll meet a SoSA staff person or volunteer at a local farm and learn exactly what to do. You will spend a few hours picking farm-fresh fruits and vegetables in a field. You may even have the opportunity to deliver that produce to a local feeding agency if you would like!

number 4

Come back next time

Come back next time to rescue more food for people in need in your community!

SoSA also needs writers, fundraisers, field supervisors, and more! Is there a unique way you would like to volunteer? Contact Rebecca Brockman at volunteer@endhunger.org.
