The Artist’s Inspiration

“No One Else But Us” is the exhale after labor, when we see a new mother and her precious child, their relationship shifting in a second from strangers to the ineffable bond of family. The infant Jesus is like any other baby here, utterly reliant on his mother, fragile and vulnerable, and Mary responds to his need with an outpouring of pride, affection, and adoration. This is incarnate agape love, and for just a moment, Jesus belongs to her alone. The world celebrates Jesus’ birth with lights and songs and gifts, but at the first Christmas, a mother and child had a singular moment to simply love each other in the most basic human way.
