Society of St. Andrew’s newest team member, Jennifer Davis Sensenig, joins SoSA with decades of pastoral leadership, a deep commitment to justice, and a love for fresh food straight from the earth. After serving churches in Iowa, California, and Virginia for over 25 years, Jennifer has stepped into this national role to help congregations live out their faith by feeding neighbors and reducing food waste.
“For those of us who hunger for righteousness, partnering with SoSA is satisfying. We’re making a right path, learning as we go, one step at at time. A billion servings of fruits and vegetables later, we’re expanding to serve more and more communities. That’s a vision of abundance and sharing, that reminds me of the kingdom of God.”
Jennifer’s background is a perfect match for SoSA’s faith-based partnerships. She has experience in sustainable agriculture, grassroots congregational organizing, and faith-based development. Now, she’s connecting congregations in your community to SoSA through gleaning, Bible studies, and youth engagement.
Faith communities like yours are integral to ending hunger. Jennifer reminds us, “The creation stories in Genesis place human beings in an abundant garden, and the Biblical prophets warn nations against neglecting the needs of the poor. So, when Jesus begins calling disciples and feeding crowds of hungry people, he shows us how to live as good news for the poor. The church in the United States–a very rich country–has a responsibility to lead communities in addressing hunger.”
Thank you for taking that responsibility seriously! Faith communities that partner with SoSA glean produce that would otherwise go to waste, pick up produce from farmers markets every week, and send youth to Harvest of Hope to learn how to make a sustainable difference in their towns. You make this possible. Your gifts turn inspiration into action—into pounds of produce shared with families in need.
Jennifer is especially excited about connecting with church leaders who are eager to engage their local communities. “Every community has pockets of food insecurity, and partnering with SoSA is a great way for congregations to begin or continue to build strong community relationships. I’m excited to build partnerships that nurture healthy congregations and provide nutritious food to neighbors who need it.”
