Simple Supper

Simple Supper LogoShare a simple meal to raise awareness for your community.

Serve a simple meal of rice and beans to your family, your friends, your congregation, your school, or your civic group. This helps raise awareness, can motivate people to action, and benefits the mission to end hunger through the Society of St. Andrew.

In this simple meal, you’ll be eating as 60% of the world’s population does every day. Click here to download our 1-page information sheet.

Make your table a welcome table. Invite both people in need and those with plenty for food and fellowship. Many churches and families who do this choose to make it an event and invite a speaker from the community to share about local hunger and food insecurity. You can also show the short movie Just Eat It (run time approx. 70 minutes). Click here to order Free Program Materials from SoSA.

You can use this opportunity to talk about SoSA and how your attendees can get involved in the mission to end hunger. We want to help you raise awareness about hunger. Or you can use this time to fellowship and enjoy. Below are some ideas:

Request a Speaker (in person or via Skype) from the Society of St. Andrew.
Invite a speaker from a local hunger relief organization to speak about hunger in your community.
• Show a movie: a DVD from Society of St. Andrew (“Just Eat It,” or the “Food Waste Quiz”)

Encourage those with enough to make a donation that will be used to provide healthy, nourishing food to people in the US at greatest risk for hunger, through the work of Society of St. Andrew. You can set a suggested gift amount per plate or leave it open-ended for a love offering.

The donation might be an amount equivalent to what you’d spend on a:

Meal for you and your family, prepared at home
• Fast-food meal
• Meal at your favorite restaurant

Many groups choose to plan their Simple Supper Events for World Communion Sunday, World Food Day, or National Food Day. You are welcome to host a Simple Supper on any day you choose.
