Potato Drop: Come bag potatoes with us on Friday, June 16, at 7am. The event will be held at the Old Best lot at the corner of Pine Chapel Road and Coliseum Road. Volunteers are needed to help bag and load about 40,000 pounds of white potatoes to be picked up by regional food banks, church pantries, soup kitchens, and other local feeding agencies. Norman Ramsey CDs and Books: Stop by the SoSA booth at Annual Conference and purchase a CD or book by acclaimed VA UMC pastor / singer / songwriter Norman Ramsey. The suggested donation is $10. A full 100% of your donation will be used to feed hungry people through the gleaning ministries of the Society of St. Andrew.
VBS Program: Abundance Orchard: Use this as the VBS program at your church. Two versions are now available; Year 1: Old Testament, and Year 2: New Testament. These are stand-alone, complete hunger-action themed programs. Order one copy for your congregation and make copies as needed. Many resources are available anytime online. [Learn More Online]
Harvest of Hope: This is the SoSA retreat program in which junior high, senior high, and inter-generational groups worship together, learn about hunger in America, and go out and make a difference. Participants are encouraged to make life-long commitments to being part of the solution. [Learn More Online]
Hunger Action Month (September): Join in with a national focus on hunger issues this September. SoSA provides a prayer and action calendar for the month, as well as resources your church can use to observe Hunger Action Month – and to take action. [Learn More Online]
Devotional Booklets: SoSA provides, at no cost, all-new devotional booklets each Advent and Lenten Season. Devotions are provided by many people, including several from the Virginia Conference. Online, you can find the order form to have booklets mailed to you; you can download the e-Book version, and you can set up daily devotion emails. [Learn More Online]
Year Round Food Programs:
In 2016, more than 32 thousand volunteers gleaned nutritious produce from farmers’ fields and orchards after the harvest. These gleanings provided more than 16 million pounds of fresh food to those in need. [Learn More Online]
